Drinking for Good Causes

Let’s be truthful: this week’s political events have made me want to drink. A lot. It’s not just me feeling this way–I’ve been making cocktails and pouring beers for many a discouraged face at work too. While I’m no expert on giving political or diplomatic advice, one of my personal mantras is to always put my money where my mouth isTurns out, my mouth is often near a beer. And thus I sought out some charitable, warm and fuzzy-feeling locations to help direct your money where your mouth is as well. Here are just a few breweries and events that do double duty in this trying time: providing you with a tasty beverage and helping your money go to a good cause.

In Seattle’s University District, Floating Bridge Brewing is holding a benefit to help Planned Parenthood on Sunday, February 12 from 1-9pm. 722 NE 45th St, Seattle, WA 98105

More Seattle: Tuesday Februay 15th is Peddler Brewing‘s charity night from 4-10, where $1 from every pint will go to Unbound, a sponsorship nonprofit that benefits impoverished youth and elderly people around the world. 1514 NW Leary Way Seattle, WA 98107

Portland’s 100% nonprofit brewery Ex Novo donates to many good causes–Friends of the Children, IJM, Impact NW and Mercy Corps. 2326 N. Flint Ave. Portland, OR 97227

Florida’s Marker 48 Brewing throughout February will donate all proceeds from one of their beers to the local United Way. 12147 Cortez Blvd, Brooksville, FL 34613

Female brewers in Colorado have collaborated to create a five versions of a brew called Makin’ Noise: A Pussy Riot Beer. Sales from the beer benefit various charities like the ACLU and Conservation Colorado. The five breweries involved are Goldspot Brewing, Lady Justice Brewing, 3 Freaks Brewing, Black Sky Brewery and Brewability Lab.

Please note that I myself have no affiliation with any of these events or companies. I am merely a concerned and thirsty citizen.
