Services for Authors and Writers

I work with emerging and established authors and writers to edit fiction and nonfiction manuscripts and short work like essays, stories, or memoirs for publication. I also offer writing coaching to develop your creative potential and marketing support and social media strategy for creatives looking to build and expand an audience for general publicity or to increase book sales.

Whether you’re seeking traditional publication or looking to self-publish, working with a knowledgeable editor is essential. Let’s polish your work and get it ready for the next step!

To ensure we’re a good fit for larger projects, I’m happy to offer a free sample edit of 1,000 words on manuscripts over 10,000 words. As a writer myself, I understand just how much work you’ve already put in. It’s important that you feel confident with your editorial team!

Pricing for projects depends on type and length, but is generally standard with the Editorial Freelance Association’s established ratesNew clients receive a 5% discount, and multiple service bookings receive 10% off!

Developmental Editing

Developmental editing helps solidify your manuscript, essay, story, or other work into a finished structure. This type of editing is extremely important for story development, argument, character journey, plot trajectory, and overall publication readiness. What I offer:

✓ 30 minute consultation session (video or audio-only, as preferred)

Extensive editorial assessment letter (generally 5-20 pages in length, depending on depth of work) detailing feedback for crafting and improving elements of pacing, character, plot, setting, voice, narrative, and theme

✓ Full developmental edit service includes in-line comments within manuscript noting where changes may be made — this is optional and can be added or removed from service

✓ Support for clarification and questions for up to two weeks after project completion by email as needed

✓ Free sample edit of 1,000 words available for manuscripts 10,000 words and over

Line or Stylistic Editing

Line editing involves a close edit of every line in a manuscript or work in order to sharpen language, improve clarity, tighten up sentence structure, and ensure accuracy throughout. This is the most involved type of editing as it addresses both small details such as individual sentence readability as well as larger-scope concepts within a piece such as voice consistency and overall style.

✓ 30 minute consultation session (video or audio-only, as preferred)

✓ Comprehensive style sheet unique to your project, detailing stylistic decisions and preferences — very valuable for future edits

✓ Fully marked-up manuscript or work with suggested edits and explanation of changes

✓ Support for clarification and questions for up to two weeks after project completion by email if needed

✓ Free sample edit of 1,000 words available for manuscripts 10,000 words and over

Copy Editing and Proofreading

Copy editing focuses strictly on grammar, punctuation, spelling, and internal consistency, making sure a manuscript or work is fully comprehensible, not contradictory, and factual. This type of editing usually happens after a line edit.

*Copy editing and line editing can be combined into a package for a 10% discount on both — a great, streamlined option for authors.

Proofreading is the very last step prior to publication on a fully edited, formatted manuscript. This process is an in-depth scan for errors and formatting issues — page numbers, word breaks, hyphenation, captions, etc. No comments or changes to writing are included in this process.

✓ 30 minute consultation session (video or audio-only, as preferred)

✓ Comprehensive style sheet unique to your project, detailing content decisions and preferences (copy edits only)

✓ Fully marked-up manuscript or work with recommended changes noted

✓ Support for clarification and questions for up to two weeks after project completion by email if needed

✓ Free sample edit of 1,000 words available for manuscripts 10,000 words and over

Social Media Content and Management

Busy writers don’t always have time to take advantage of the opportunity social media offers to help increase readership. I work with authors and writers of all focuses to create templates and guides to support content production and consistent posting. Whether you’re self-publishing, working with an indie publisher, or in the querying process, building your audience is extremely helpful for future success.
